On 4 April 2014, Sulis shared her work experiences with with students of the Computer Science at Unversitas Indonesia. The seminar was held in the midst of their mid-year exams, yet the full auditorium showed the enthusiasm of students in this emerging topic of User Experience (UX).
The seminar started with a discussion of what UX is and why UX is everybody’s responsibitles. Sulis then shared about the role UX professional and how it fits in the organization and in the development process, including some case studies from her experiences working as in-house designer at Dell Singapore Design Centre, in a startup – Bridestory.com, and as a consultant for XL Axiata. As a closing, she shared some tips on how to get a UX career.
The two-hour seminar was very interactive, with active participations and lively discussions with the students. They were particularly curious about how UX fits in the organization, how to get organization’s or client’s buy-in, and where they can learn more about UX – through formal training or internships.
“I am amazed to see the level of students’ interest. They are starting to appreciate that UX is not just about making things look pretty, but also the underlying thinking of how it works” – Sulis.
